An upward trend in orders and sales is providing a welcome boost for the Swiss mechanical and electrical engineering industries. Swissmem, which represents those sectors, saw new orders rise by 7.5% in 2017 and exports go up by 5.5%. Nearly half of the companies that consititute these industries, however, reported unsatisfactory earnings.
